Five denominations of "Vins de Pays de Zone" are produced in the Loire Valley. The IGP Côtes de la Charité wine has been part of them since a decree of 1986. The very old Côtes de la Charité vineyard is located in the foothills of the Morvan. The slopes are steep and devoid of embellishments. Today, the work of the Domaine Alphonse Mellot is particularly distinguished by the quality of its Côtes de la Charité wines.
According to the specifications of the appellation, the IGP Côtes de la Charité wines must be made from grapes harvested on the territory of the communes of the canton of La Charité-sur-Loire and the communes of Arbourse, Châteauneuf-Val-de-Bargis, Dompierre-sur-Nièvre, Germigny-sur-Loire, Parigny-les-Vaux.
The grape varieties used for white wines are mainly Chardonnay and Sauvignon (70% minimum) and secondarily Chasselas, Pinot blanc and Aligoté (30% maximum).
