The AOC Savennières delimits a vineyard that extends over part of the territory of Anjou. The entire appellation area, which also includes the geographical sub-appellations Savennières-Coulée-de-Serrant and Savennières-Roche-aux-Moines, is located south of Angers.
It is a terroir known for its exceptional dry white wines, known as the "Grand Cru" of the Loire Valley vineyards. The terroir extends over 150 hectares and, with an annual production of 4,700 hectoliters, it has one of the lowest yields in France, 34hl/ha. Its schist soils in the foothills of the Armorican Massif are shallow and very stony, favoring a good maturity of the grapes harvested by selection of bunches on stumps.
Savennières is undoubtedly the most complete dry white wine of the Loire Valley, with a very good ageing potential (invaluable for the best vintages), it is full-bodied and serous, rich in lime blossom, quince paste and honey aromas. It is also marked by a strong minerality, a slight bitterness and an exceptional aromatic persistence. After ten years of cellaring, this wine expresses all its richness and complexity.
