The vineyard of Vouvray today locates its production area at the eastern limits of the Touraine agglomeration and extends over 7 communes on the right bank of the Loire and along its tributary, the Brenne.
The 2,000 hectares of vines in Vouvray allow an annual production of 120,000 hectoliters. On the edge of the confluent valleys, the soils warm up quickly under the oceanic influence which penetrates to the heart of the vineyard. Sunny autumns favour over-ripeness, even noble rot. Obtaining tender (semi-dry), sweet or syrupy wines depends on climatic variability: the vintage effect is decisive. In addition, great dry Vouvray wines are vinified each year.
Whether they are dry, tender, mellow or fine bubbles depending on their residual sugar content and their effervescence, the white Vouvray wines are exceptionally diverse. Exclusively produced from the Chenin Blanc grape variety, they are always flattering in their youth, with notes of acacia, rose and citrus fruits. Depending on their mellowness, the wines are ample or opulent, but always very fresh. The dry whites are rich and typical. The considerable lifespan of Vouvray wines (10 to 40 years) is supported by the perfect storage conditions (temperature and hygrometry) of the deep cellars dug into the chalk of the hillsides.
