The Roussillon is like an amphitheater dominated by heights often difficult to cross that separate it from neighboring provinces. The climate of Roussillon is characterized by a dry summer season and a rainy period in autumn and early spring. This Mediterranean-type climate, influenced by the nearby mountains, favors the ripening of the grapes.
White Roussillon wines are mainly made from Grenache blanc, Macabeu, Malvoisie, Muscat, Marsanne, Roussanne and Vermentino. The Roussillon offers famous appellations renowned for their natural sweet wines: Rivesaltes, Banyuls and Maury.
