Although the entire Douro region is surrounded by a geological formation of granitic nature. The soils are therefore essentially composed of schist derivatives.
The particularity of the Douro lies in its geographical location. Rich in deep valleys sheltered by the mountainous relief, the region is renowned for its harsh winters and hot, dry summers.
The Douro offers great white wines that deserve to be known. The dry white wines are a blend of several varieties such as Malvasia Fina, Visinho, Gouveio and Rabigato.
White wines to be drunk young: pale in color, with refreshing fruity and floral aromas, they are balanced on the palate, showing their youthfulness.
White wine “de garde”: they have a good aromatic intensity and complexity and have generally fermented or stayed in the woods, in which case they have a golden color and toasted and tropical fruit aromas. Most of these wines carry the appellation "Reserva" and "Grande Reserva" (Cru or Grand Cru).
