The Crémant de Bordeaux appellation is recent, it dates back to 1990 and can be produced throughout the Gironde region. Formerly called sparkling Bordeaux, these wines are made according to the Champagne method.
The Crémant de Bordeaux are mostly white wines (9,000 hl are produced each year) but there are also a few rosés (200 hl). The soils of this terroir are clay-limestone, composed of gravel, boulbènes and alluvium. The grape varieties vinified on this AOC are the same as those traditionally used in the Bordeaux region: Semillon, Sauvignon, Muscadelle for the white wines and Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot for the rosés. These wines can claim a beautiful balance between melted acidity and aromatic complexity.
