The Vayots Dzor region is one of the oldest and most important wine-growing regions in Armenia. The altitude of the region varies between 850 m (Aréni) and 3522 m (Mount Vardénis) from the sea. It has a dry climate, with rainfall of 300-800 mm which varies according to altitude. The main natural landscapes are half deserts and steppes, the main artery is the Arpa River, which originates from the height of 3260 meters and flows in the territory of the region and flows into the Arax River.
Thanks to the large number of sunny days in the year (300 days/year on average), the grapes that grow in the region of Vayots Dzor have a high sugar content, which ensures the high alcohol content, as a result of which high quality wine can be obtained. The main grape varieties are : Aréni, Khatoun khardji, Tozot, Seyrak, Voskéhat.
