120 km in the north of Porto Alegre, Bento Gonçalves is a town of 100,000 inhabitants with houses with basalt walls, green valleys like Bavaria, rainfall as abundant as in the Basque Country and vines trellised on almost every hillside.
Bento Gonçalves remains the city of reference for wine tourism and the capital of the Brazilian vineyard, which today has almost 90,000 hectares of vines. 85% of the national wine is produced in the Serra Gaúcha. Along the "Valley of Vineyards", are installed the most prestigious houses: Miolo, Casa Valduga, Vallontano, Lidio Carraro, Angheben, Pizzato, Salton, Dal Pizzol and the cooperative cellar Aurora.
This market is growing by 10% each year in Brazil. As everywhere in the world, wines are an ideal gateway to the wine world for members of the emerging middle classes who are discovering its pleasures.
