The Maule Valley is a large producing region of the country, with its 30,000 hectares of vineyards. Located in the Central Valley, south of the famous regions of Colchagua and Maipo, it extends over more than 100 kilometers.
The region of Maule has the largest area of vines on volcanic soils and has three times more rainfall than the capital Santiago. The vines take advantage of a long period of growth to have a concentrated grape.
The Pais, a local grape variety used for popular Chilean drinks, still predominates in the Maule Valley but international varieties such as Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot are in strong progression. n the region, very prestigious wine is made from old Carignan vines: it is a mineral wine, with aromas of plum and black fruits.
