The Menetou-Salon AOC is located on the vineyards of the Central-Loire sub-region. Less known than the AOC Sancerre or Blanc fumé de Pouilly, the AOC Menetou-Salon produces a better quality.
The vineyard extends over 500 hectares, on limestone to clay soils whose gravels are locally called "oreilles de poule". The climate is semi-continental but many microclimates exist depending on the terroirs. The wine-growing landscape is rather mild in the west, and high and sloping in the east.
The Menetou-Salon red wines, of medium ageing potential, are made only from Pinot Noir grapes and are supple and fragrant, with a ruby robe and aromas of ripe fruit.
