The Principality of Orange, called vin de pays de la principauté d'Orange until 2009, is a French wine with a protected geographical indication of zone which can be produced in 36 communes in the department of Vaucluse. The conditions for this labeling were set by the decree of March 5, 1981. It is in the north of Vaucluse that this vineyard benefits from a temperate Mediterranean climate with the influence of the Mistral wind.
The local wines of the Principauté-d'Orange represent almost 20% of the volumes produced in the department. They are mainly blended wines whose vines must be pruned according to the following pruning systems: Gobelet with two-eyed spur, Guyont, Cordon de Royat. These are mainly single-variety wines, of the traditional Provencal type. The yield is capped at 85 or 90 hl/ha and the degree of alcohol must be between 10 and 15%.
