The Irouléguy AOC covers a surface area of 220 hectares grouped mainly in the historic province of Lower Navarre, in the heart of the very old vineyards of the Basque Country, whose terroir paradoxically is the standard and only survivor.
The vineyard, located on the slopes of the western Pyrenees, has a bowl shape that allows it to benefit from a characteristic local topoclimate.
Winds laden with water vapour coming from the ocean to the west confront the massifs that surround the Irouleguy region and empty themselves of their humidity.
The vineyard terraces located in the basin only recover hot and dry winds, more favourable to the good development of the vines and the quality of the grapes, it is the foen effect. The soils are made up of various substrates which also give the terroir a qualitative character: limestone and alluvium which are well suited to the late grape varieties used in the region.
Mostly tannat, as well as cabernet franc or cabernet sauvignon for red wines. The reds dominate, with productions of fleshy and spicy wines, sometimes quite tannic, with a beautiful purple color. They are characterized by black fruit and violet aromas.
