Located south of Bonn, with a classification that is both simple and complex, the German vineyard is divided into 11 wine regions or Anbaugeviet, then into 35 Bereiche, 152 Grosslagen and 2,600 Einzellagen.
For a better understanding, we must remember two major groups, one to the east and the other to the west of the Rhine, and above all five major entities that are both very different and complementary, with the way in which the grapes are harvested and the way in which the vintages are aged taking precedence over the very notion of appellation.
Red wines from Germany have made good progress in recent years. Today, they represent 40% of the production. The Ahr valley produces very good wines such as the Bereich from Kaiserstuhl-Tuniberg.
