Excellent South African red wines are produced in the Western Cape region. A large majority of Pinotage, an emblematic grape variety of the region with such a particular flavor.
The general climate of the Western Cape is typically Mediterranean, but the mountainous landscape creates ideal microclimates to create quality red wines. Ocean breezes from the Atlantic and warmer currents from the Indian Ocean gather around the Cape of South Africa, influencing and refreshing the vineyards of the Western Cape region.
