The Alicante appellation refers to wines produced from the vineyards located in the region around this Spanish city. The production areas are spread over different territories of the province. Terroir and climate can vary, from the humidity and richness of the dirty vineyards of Marina Alta, to the dry and poor lands of Vinalopo, to the more balanced lands located in the vineyards of Comtat for example.
The wines of Alicante are made from different grape varieties. Among them, the Moscatel of Alexandria stands out, a grape variety used both for winemaking and for the table and for the production of raisins is cultivated in the Marina Alta region, creating a specific diversified landscape and a very particular culture. However, the most represented grape variety is still the Monastrell of Alicante, whose marriages with other grape varieties are particularly easy and happy. However, it is the Bouschet d'Alicante, whose flesh is the same color as the skin, that gives this appellation its character, especially due to the color it gives to the wine and the mineral touch associated with the personality of Alicante wines.
