The Jumilla appellation is located in the south-east of Spain. The production area is characterized by valleys and wide plains surrounded by mountains. The label "Denominación de Origen" was granted in 1966 for a large area surrounding the town of Jumilla in the province of Murcia and for the vineyards of the municipalities of Montealegre del Castillo, Fuenteálamo, Ontur, Hellin, Albatana and Tobarra in the province of Albacete.
The vineyards of Jumilla are planted on brown, brown-limestone and lime soils that have a great capacity to retain water. It is a dry and sunny climate very conducive to the ripening of the vine.
With more than 80% of the vineyard, the emblematic grape variety of the Jumilla appellation is Monastrel, a typically Spanish grape that expresses itself perfectly on this terroir. The appellation also authorizes Cencibel, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot for red wines.
The Jumilla appellation will offer the best of its terroir and the best expressions of the Monastrel in the vintages elaborated by Crapula Wines.
