Jumilla is one of the wine regions that, during the 1990s, entered the modern era of Spanish wines. It all began with the optimization of the vineyard, then it was new winemaking techniques and enthusiastic young oenologists who revolutionized the area and brought out the best in it. Nowadays, these wines are among the most exported in the country and their quality is recognized worldwide.
One of the causes of this new era is due to the local red variety, the monastrell, which is matured with tenderness and well cared for in the cellar, producing red wines that are well-structured, tasty, fleshy and with a strong personality.
Located at the western end of the peninsula and straddling the La Mancha plateau and Murcia, the region covers both the southern part of the province of Albacete and the northern part of the province of Murcia. Although it is located in the hinterland, and therefore far from the sea, its climate is Mediterranean with some continental influences towards Albacete. Apparently arid, the soil is brown limestone, poor in organic matter.
