Table wine( vino de masa ) is the generic name of the most common and lightest of the wines commonly drunk during meals.
In general, in the European Union it refers to inferior quality wine that has neither a designation of origin nor a geographical indication.
The European Union stipulated two categories: table wine or quality wine. Table wine, apart from not being able to indicate its region of production (and even having to use postal codes to avoid the name of a designation of origin on the label), could not indicate the year of harvest or the grape variety either. The 2008 Regulation allows its indication provided that it is verified by a certifying body.
However, as an exception, quite ambitious wines can be qualified as table wines, if they are made with non-traditional grape varieties or with non-conventional winemaking processes.
