The AOC Graves extends over 60 km and runs along the left bank of the Garonne. The Graves vine is cultivated on a long gravelly strip composed of pebbles, clay and asteritic limestone. The terroir of this AOC, typical of the Bordeaux region, is so renowned that it is the only one to have given its name to an appellation.
The vineyard covers 3,500 ha and produces 163,000 hl of red and white wines every year. The red wines are mainly made from the Merlot grape variety, which accounts for more than 50% of the vines. The grape varieties are often supplemented with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The reputation of the red is based on the balance between the power of the framework and the roundness and charming volume of the wine.
