The Coteaux du Layon vineyard covers about 1,400 hectares with an annual production of about 40,000 hectoliters. The terroir is composed of typical terraces of schist and sandstone from the Armorican basement, brown and shallow Anjou Noir soils. The climate is oceanic temperate and particularly dry. The delimited zones correspond to well exposed and ventilated hillside situations which favour the precocity of the vegetation and the systematic obtaining of over-ripe harvests.
The Coteaux du Layon appellation produces sweet and syrupy wines, made from the Chenin grape variety, with an aromatic richness that can be infinitely varied.
It is a soft or sweet and fruity white wine made from Chenin blanc, known as Chenin Blanc, which has the particularity of being over-ripe. It has been able to take its place at the greatest tables and its presence in haute gastronomy is amply deserved. Its sparkling color, golden and greenish with age, is seductive and even coppery with age. It can be kept for a period of five to twenty years, or even longer for the largest bottles and harvests.
