The appellation area of Bonnezeaux wines is located on a small part of a single commune on the right bank of the Layon: Thouarcé. The AOC Bonnezeaux ranks among the exceptional terroirs.
Covering an area of about 120 hectares, the Bonnezeaux vineyard allows a production of about 2,000 hectoliters per year. The climate is of temperate oceanic type, but rather dry, with fairly small temperature differences, this is the proverbial "douceur angevine".
The grape variety used for these sweet wines is Chenin Blanc. The harvest is manual with successive sorting of grapes that have reached over-ripeness and present a concentration by the action or not of the noble rot. The wines of Bonnezeaux have a deep golden yellow color with green reflections, evolving on the old gold with amber reflections. Their ageing potential is a minimum of 10 years and extends to priceless lengths of time in fine vintages. Excellent Bonnezeaux wines are thus offered by Château de Fesles or Domaine des Petits Quarts.
