The AOC Jasnières, is an appellation of the Loire Valley whose production area extends over 2 communes of the department of Sarthe: Lhomme and Ruillé-sur-Loir. The Jasnières vineyard covers an area of about 65 hectares intertwined with the Coteaux du loir appellation with which it constitutes the northernmost appellation of the Loire Valley.
The Jasnières vineyard rests on a soil of soft chalk of the Turonian, also called tuffeau, decomposed into flint clays giving sloping soils, very stony, difficult to work, but where the vine finds a ground favourable to its blooming.
The Jasnières wine appellation produces exclusively white wines made from the Chenin blanc grape variety. It is a vigorous and fairly productive grape variety that gives white grapes with tight berries that take on a beautiful golden color when ripe.
Jasnières wines are reputed to be among the best dry whites in France, characterized by flint aromas that are more or less pronounced depending on the vintage or vintage. They also benefit from a remarkable ability to age for tens of years or even more than a century.
