Châteaumeillant is located at an altitude of 255 meters, in the South Boischaut, in the department of Cher. It is based on seven communes: Châteaumeillant, Saint-Maur, Vesdun, Champillet, Feusines, Néret and Urciers. The wine is produced at the border between the Cher and Indre rivers, in the Centre region.
With less than 100 hectares, Châteaumeillant is one of the smallest AOC vineyards in France. The wine first obtained the label "vin délimité de qualité supérieure" in 1965, before obtaining the famous AOC sesame on June 9, 2010. The red wines, supple, fine and fruity, are made from Gamay and GPinot Noir grapes.
