Lorraine is a small vineyard of 500 ha in the east of France, between Champagne in the west and Alsace in the east. It is located in the departments of Vosges, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle. It is the northernmost production region in France.
If the nearby Alsace vineyard can give it some shade, it would be a shame not to stop on the wines of Lorraine. This vineyard, one of the oldest in France, has represented up to 48,000 ha of vines in production. Since the 1980's, we have been witnessing the rise of the Lorraine vineyard, rewarded by obtaining a first AOC, Côtes de Toul, in 1998. The names AOC Moselle, which concerns the vines of the Côtes de Moselle, and the Côtes de Meuse were also created. The red wines of Lorraine are mainly made of pinots noir.
