A selection of the best Beaujolais hillsides, the appellation brings together thirty-eight communes in the northern part of the vineyard. The delimitation marks the transition between the clay-limestone of the southern Beaujolais and retains only the granitic soils. From the black Gamay, the winegrowers obtain well-structured or fruity red wines. The rare Beaujolais-Villages white wines come from the chardonnay plants of these villages.
