Vacqueyras

AOC Vacqueyras is produced in the communes of Vacqueyras and Sarrians, north-east of Orange in the Vaucluse department. This terroir extends over 1,400 hectares of vines, bordered by the Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise vineyards.

 

The soil, of great diversity, is mainly composed of clay, sand, rolled pebbles, limestone scree and red limestone. With one of the most traditional grape varieties for the southern vineyard of the Côtes-du-Rhône, this typicity between climate and soil allows the elaboration of red wines with different characters. The reds are mainly made from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault.

They are wines of character, balanced and fine, which are best consumed after 2 to 3 years. The most powerful ones are not so far from their most reputed neighbors of Gigondas.
