The AOC Muscat-de-Saint-Jean-de-Minervois is located in the only commune of Saint-Jean-de-Minervois, at the extreme north of the Minervois, on a surface area of 205 hectares. This appellation produces approximately 5,750 hectoliters of wine per year.
Elaborated by mutage like the Muscat-de-Frontignan, the Muscat de Saint-Jean-de-Minervois distinguishes itself from the three other Languedoc muscats by a terroir with a much more continental situation, at an altitude of 250 to 280 meters. The climate is therefore Mediterranean, temperate in altitude. This situation makes it a later vineyard, where the grapes do not reach maturity until one month after the Muscat-de-Mireval or Frontignan.
The soils of the Muscat-de-Saint-Jean-de-Minervois AOC are composed of very shallow alveolate limestone in which the limestone chips mix with red clay. As for all the Muscats of the region, these wines are made exclusively from small white Muscat grapes. The white wines of this AOC finally distinguish themselves from other Muscats with their finer and more fragrant character and also by their floral notes.
