The AOC Muscat-de-Frontignan is located between the lagoon of Vic La Gardiole and the lagoon of Thau near the town of Frontignan. This appellation covers an area of 810 hectares and produces about 22,500 hectoliters of wine per year. The AOC is south-facing and benefits from the influence of the sea winds, which bring a little humidity and freshness, so precious for the progressive but very advanced ripening of the grapes used to make the sweet wines.
The Muscat-de-Frontignan, better known as the Muscat of the Languedoc, is a natural sweet wine, made exclusively from small white Muscat grapes. All the wines of this AOC must undergo a mutage, a process which consists in stopping the alcoholic fermentation of the must by adding wine alcohol at 96° minimum. This traditional operation, which is specific to natural sweet wines, allows better conservation of the sugars and to enhance the natural aromas specific to the grape variety used.
The grape variety, the exceptional terroir and the quality of the winemaking methods give fat and vinous wines marked by aromas of dried or exotic fruits. The twisted bottle has become the symbol of this appellation.
