The AOC Côtes-du-Roussillon-Villages comes from 32 communes located in the Agly valley. This appellation extends over 2,250 hectares, and differs from the Côtes-du-Roussillon by constraints related to yield.
The vineyard produces about 34,000 hectoliters per year and is located at an altitude of between 100 and 400 meters. The distance from the sea and the altitude somewhat attenuate the typical Mediterranean climate of Roussillon. These wines come from terroirs of gneiss, schist, granite or limestone.
The Côtes-du-Roussillon-Villages must be made from a blend of at least 4 of the following grape varieties: grenache noir, syrah, mourvèdre, carignan. To this appellation are added 4 other appellations designating communal specificities: Côtes-du-Roussillon-Villages-Caramany, Côtes-du-Roussillon-Villages-Latour-de-France, Côtes-du-Roussillon-Villages-Lesquerde and Côtes-du-Roussillon-Villages-Tautavel. These are red wines of character, powerful and complex, whose aging is beneficial.
