The Côtes de Bordeaux wine appellation includes four other Côtes de Bordeaux appellations in the areas of Blaye, Castillon, Francs and Cadillac. These four appellations together produce dry and sweet white wines.
The soils of this appellation range from gravelly to sandy and clayey-limestone Cadillac soils. The Côtes de Bordeaux vineyard covers an area of 10,300 hectares, its production is around 635,500 hectoliters or 85,000,000 bottles of Côtes de Bordeaux wines, all together!
The main grape varieties used for the white wines are sauvignon, sauvignon gris, semillon and muscadelle, these are assembled in small quantities by the pigeon and the ugni blanc. They are simple wines but with well marked characters. They remain relatively affordable to purchase.
