The AOC Côte de Beaune extends around the Volnay syncline, from Ladoix to Les Maranges, over a total area of 30 hectares. This vineyard differs from that of the neighbouring Côte de Nuits, by a significant presence of marly outcrops, due to the sinking of the Middle Jurassic. This phenomenon is at the origin of softer and more feminine wines than those of the Côte de Nuits. The soils are brown calcareous and calcareous and are located at an altitude of between 300 and 370 meters.
