The regional name of Vin de Pays de l'Atlantique has been in existence since 2006. It brings together 76 producer members and cellars in the Gironde, Dordogne and other departments of Poitou and Aquitaine, for a production of 39,500 hectoliters of wine, 62% of which is red wine.
This denomination is a complement to the range of Bordeaux AOC wines. The great terroirs of South West France benefit from a hot and humid climate which refreshes the vines and gives them the strong flavors of the Aquitaine region and the lands of the hinterland such as the Périgord.
The grape varieties for the reds are mainly merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah. They are bouquets of spicy and round flavors, with hints of tart red fruits. The success of this appellation wine is due to the creativity of the produGcers united under 76 labels that encourage travel.
