Val-de-loire, formerly called Vin de Pays du Jardin de la France from 1981 to 2007, then renamed Vin de Pays du Val de Loire until 2009, is a French wine with a regional protected geographical indication IGP (the new name for vins de pays) produced throughout the vineyards of the Loire Valley.
This slightly hilly and very varied terroir is made up of sandy, chalky, tufa, clayey-limestone, schist, sandstone, granite and gravelly soils. It allows winegrowers to produce IGP wines that have a style reminiscent of the AOC Loire appellations.
