Presentation
Maison Krug was founded in November 1843, at the end of the harvest season. We can therefore assume that it was in 1844 that the first Krug harvest took place, from which Joseph Krug made his dream come true for the first time, thus giving birth to Champagne Krug Grande Cuvée.
The first reinterpretation of Krug Grande Cuvée – the first Edition – was thus created around the 1845 harvest. Every year, only once a year, they create a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, offering a unique blend and bottling. . The number of each Edition bears witness to the number of times this act of creation took place, and also corresponds to the number of years during which they had reinterpreted the dream of the founder of the Maison Krug.
Once made, the bottle is placed in the Krug cellars where it will rest for about seven years.
As he clearly wrote in his notebook in 1848, Joseph Krug did not favor one of his Champagnes over another. Today, the House offers seven Champagnes, all offering the same unequaled quality and illustrating a different expression of Nature.
Know how
In order to go beyond the notion of vintage in the creation of a Champagne of exceptional quality, Joseph Krug began to build a collection of reserve wines, since enriched by six generations. This library now houses 150 wines, all expressing the personality of a unique parcel. Krug know-how is largely based on the concept of individuality, i.e. the art of transforming the harvest of each parcel into wine, then taking into consideration its unique character before any blending decision. .
This allows the Cellar Master to identify and distinguish the wines from each parcel likely to enrich the creations of the year, the wines to be kept as reserve wines for future use or the wines which should not be kept because they do not express the desired profile.
