Clos Joliette is to Jurançon what Château Yquem is to Sauternes: the crown of a kingdom. It is located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, in the village of Jurançon. It is a 1 hectare plot of vines planted in 1929 on a clayey-siliceous soil. The yields are ridiculous, so the production of 1,500 bottles is confidential. And yet - or because of that - its aura is immense. Among its most loyal admirers are Jean-Claude Berrouet (former winemaker at Petrus), who saw in it "the quintessence of an exceptional terroir", Gérard Depardieu, who liked to push the doors of the estate, Pierre Citerne, who called it "the greatest wine of the South West" or Betrand de Lur Saluces, who once saw in it a wine on a par with his Château d'Yquem.
The wine comes from century-old vines of Petit Manseng, a grape variety native to the South West. The grapes are picked in December, when concentration is at its peak. Tasting this wine of light is a unique experience, allowing one to understand the power of the terroir and the expression of a grape variety of all contrasts. What depth, what vibrant acidity! If balance had a name, we would undoubtedly give it Joliette. Clos Joliette is an exceptional nectar, capricious and with its own personality.
The production methods would make many winemakers and technicians jump. And it doesn't matter if the quality level varies from one bottle to the next. Tasting a large bottle of Clos Juliette is a unique experience that every lover of sweet wines should experience. Sweet or dry, as it is produced differently in different vintages.
