Multiple and complex, the terroirs of Domaine Tempier form a mosaic of plots with very rich geological soils spread over 60 hectares. The topologies and exposures are very varied and the vines are old. La Bastide au Plan du Castellet, la Migoua, la Tourtine, Cabassaou... each terroir is carefully observed and worked on to reveal its full character through four great vintages.
The cuvées of the Domaine are produced in small quantities to best reveal the quality of the terroirs and the old vines. Red, rosé, or white, everyone will be seduced by these wines created to be shared. In the vineyards, in the cellar or on the estate, everyone perpetuates the reputation of the great wines of Bandol. All of them express with simplicity the pleasure of creating and meeting around the wine. "To make wine like the landscape". This was Lucien Peyraud's ambition when he created the estate. This respect for the terroir remains our guiding principle today, with one ambition: to let it express all that it has to give us.
Cabassaou:
"That cabasse = that hit". The name Cabassaou echoes the warmth of this terroir protected from the Mistral by the Castellet hill. On 1.50 hectares, a small amphitheater of restanques with shallow soils is aerated by thermal winds. Here the quintessence of old Mourvèdre and Syrah grapes of at least 60 years old is expressed in the Cabassaou parcel cuvée.
La Bastide :
La Bastide is the soul of the Domaine. Here were planted the first vines of the Rounard-Tempier family. At the Plan du Castellet, where the large cypress trees float like the masts of a ship, the vines of mourvèdre, grenache, cinsault and carignan stretch over 7 hectares. Blended with the other Tempier terroirs, the Bastide terroir is now used in the composition of the rosé and red wines of the Cuvée Classique.
La Tourtine :
Close to the village of Le Castellet, on a hillside favorable to Mourvèdre with a southern exposure, this terroir has the particularity of being extremely windy but also very sunny. Here, the vines mature easily. The deep soils are composed of sandstone and marl dating from the Santonian period (85-90 Ma), with a strong presence of clay and some gypsum. The excellence of this 5.5 hectare terroir makes up the parcel-based La Tourtine cuvée.
La Laidière:
Bought in 2016, these 18 east-facing hectares, on 300 meters of slope, constitute a terroir with exceptional potential. Less hot, it is mainly used to enhance the freshness of the whites and rosés.
La Migoua :
On the massif of Le Beausset Vieux, at an altitude of nearly 300 meters, La Migoua takes place in a wild environment of garrigue. A remarkable geological accident has formed soils of great complexity. A nappe de charriage is added to a geological reversal where older clay-limestone subsoils of the trias are outcropping. The Migoua parcel cuvée, resulting from a fine selection, expresses all the singularity of this 11 hectare site.
