Béarn is exceptional, in the literal sense of the word, the atmosphere is unique, the colors, the relief, the climate, the people and their character, everything is different and remarkable. Balance is the common denominator in everything that makes up this land of peace and well-being. The mountain puts its stamp on the shared destiny: the climate is mild, southern and Atlantic, the land is generous and fertile in food and in identities, the people cultivate balance. The collective and ancestral intelligence has taken care to make a vineyard like no other. In this climate, which is conducive to all kinds of life, a record for mild temperatures and water resources, it was necessary to invent the appropriate grape variety: Petit Manseng.
Domaine Camin Larredya is managed by Jean-Marc Grussaute, who took over from his parents in 1988, with the aim of pushing ever further towards the quality of the blends and vinifications. The vineyard has 9.5 hectares of vines certified in Organic Agriculture Agrocert, of which 4 are cultivated in terraces planted with gros manseng (27%), petit manseng (65%), petit courbu and camaralet (8%).
He learns oenology with a virtuoso of oenological advice, Patrick Ducournau, founder of Vivelys, uses micro-oxygenation and then abandons it until he goes organic, changing sides and interlocutors. He does not use any method, relying on his instinct, on this Petit Manseng for which he has respectful attentions, aware that he has built the future of Jurançon.... Very aware of organic farming, he obtained the Agrocert certification in 2007. The work of the soil is more earthy, more peasant and Jean-Marc Grussaute applies the Hérody method and the consultation of the lunar calendar. The vineyard is managed in a "more gardening" way with the multiplication of manual passages.
Jean-Marc Grussaute was elected "Winemaker of the Year 2023" by the Revue du Vin de France.
The former rugby player, reconverted to the breeding of petit manseng, is indeed celebrated by the Revue du vin de France as "the taming of the slopes" of Jurançon. Facing the Pyrenees mountain range, he was one of the pioneers of organic farming by conviction. "This distinction is the validation of a long journey," explains Jean-Marc Grussaute. "I knew that the wines would change, evolve, become denser and then above all adapt to a demand in relation to fine cuisine, gastronomy."
The estate produces a range of dry and semi-sweet Jurançon of very high quality, the fruit of the work of a team dedicated to the family and human dimension of the business: the gestures of each and their meaning serve the cause of the terroir and its sustainability.
This respect for nature is reflected in the names of the wines. The vintages take their name from the parcel from which they are made:
- La Part Davant, which means "the eastern part" is precisely a dry Jurançon.
- Au capcèu, or "at the zenith of the hill" is a 100% petit manseng cuvée, a reference in dessert wines.
- La Virada, dry Jurançon, a blend of gros manseng, petit manseng and petit courbu.
- La Costa Blanca, a blend of petit manseng and a little lauzet and camaralet
