the 2016 vintage port adelaide, the final blend but not quite bottled, is a field blend from old vines aged only in stainless steel. it comes in with 96 grams of residual sugar. this has a long finish filled with flavor. those that see a lot of stainless rather than wood typically have this vivid fruit. the supporting tannins are moderate, making this easy to drink very young—which doesn't mean it won't age. how well remains to be seen, to be sure, but it does have reasonable structure. this is always an enticing bottling for its flavor and purity, although it is not a typical porto that will be equally pleasing to all. granting that i do not have them side by side, i might have a minor preference for the 2015, but it's close enough to take another look at both in five years. note: i'm told the adelaide will be dropped from the port name and used only for table wine going forward.
