This Pinot Noir from the commune of Charrat isn't a trip to Burgundy, but a wine of Valais origin. Garnet color in the glass. The bouquet is very delicately spiced. Blackthorn, rosehip, a touch of licorice, and a hint of spruce needles. The nose is spicy, smoky, and austere. On the palate, the tannins appear soft and finely polished. The acidity is concise, the wine fleshy and full of black fruits. And figs, a touch of cream. The wine was not aged in French barrels, but in larger oak barrels. The emphasis here is on fresh but ripe fruit. MT Chappaz recommends tasting the wine within the first 5 years. A very unique type of Pinot Noir that doesn't seek to imitate anything but rather reflects the origins of Valais.
