this wine is produced by the conde de caralt estate, located in the penedes wine region of catalonia, spain. the 1966 reserva is a brownish red wine with orange highlights, a sign of its advanced age. the 1966 vintage was an excellent one for the region, with favourable weather conditions. on the nose, there are aromas of candied fruit, prunes, figs, leather, tobacco and wood. on the palate, the 1966 conde de caralt reserva is smooth and silky, with flavours of candied fruit, caramel, nuts and leather. the tannins are mellow and the acidity is moderate, with a long and persistent finish. this wine is a perfect example of how red wines can evolve and improve over time. it should be drunk now to fully enjoy its complex and subtle flavours.
