kabola teran 2010

the kabola estate is located in the region of momjan and buje in the northwest of the istrian peninsula at 275 meters above sea level, with a view of the alps and the dolomites, which gives it a postcard setting. the vine has been present there since 1891. it has belonged to the markezic family for several generations, but the vagaries of history have not always favored entrepreneurial creation and the estate was for a long time more a farm than a wine estate in its own right. . the vineyards, ideally facing south-west, are planted on soils composed of clay and marl which also include in places strips of red soil with a significant portion of iron oxide. viticulture in this region has been known since antiquity and for a long time it was one of the main supply areas for the aristocracy of the austro-hungarian empire. the grape varieties are mainly made up of indigenous malmsey, muscat and teran plants as well as a small proportion of international grape varieties such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. the estate favors large containers, demi-muids and casks, and the aging of malvazia in amphorae has propelled this grape variety into another dimension. kabola teran 2010 has a burgundy color and a bloody nose with blackberry and herbaceous notes such as thyme. this wine, of which 2010 is undoubtedly one of the best vintages, remains long in the mouth and is distinguished by its power.
