in the local bordeaux language, "pez" means peace. the elm, even if it is an extinct plant species today, is one of the most resistant trees. peace and strength thus found a home in the 18th century when the château ormes de pez was established. with a long history and the passage of many illustrious owners, château ormes de pez found its stability in 1890. it was at this time that jean guillou, cellar master at the château, married marie cazes. the first world war was to be the end of the wine maker. it was his wife who took over the reins of the château. her brother acquired the property in 1940. thus, it was at this date that the property became part of the cazes family heritage. in 1950, the ormes disappeared, but the name remained. major work was initiated when the cazes family officially arrived. today it is jean-michel cazes who runs the estate and ensures the reputation of this beautiful cru bourgeois. this estate, which belongs to the cazes family, benefits from the know-how of its owners, both in terms of cultivation and vinification. ormes de pez was consecrated cru bourgeois exceptionnel during the revision of the classification of the crus bourgeois, which took place in june 2003. on the gravel and clayey sand soil, the vineyard produces wines with a blackcurrant and blackberry nose, smooth, full-bodied and spicy. particularly pleasant, they are fine, elegant and tender in the mouth.
