no other domain embodies the pommard appellation better than the courcel domain. this estate produces over 10 hectares the greatest red wines of the commune thanks to exceptional terroirs such as the 1er cru grand clos des epenots (which it operates as a monopoly) or the rugiens which surpass many grands crus. since 1996, anne bommelaer and marie de courcel have managed the estate while gilles de courcel, assisted by yves confuron, is in charge of the vinification. the vines are conducted in organic farming (not certified), and the requirement of the family is there at all times. the vineyard has four premiers crus in the pommard appellation. premier cru grand clos des epenots pommard is a monopole from the courcel estate. its 4.5 hectares produce nearly 50% of the estate's bottles. but it is above all one of the greatest terroirs of the appellation. it is located in the north of the appellation on clay-limestone soil, with many pebbles which provide the vines, which are around sixty years old, with good drainage. this wine presents a nose of red and black fruits and aromas of pepper as can be found in pommard. on the palate it is concentrated with present tannins which relax after 5 to 10 years of ageing. a reference.
