the story of the sottimano estate began in the late 1960s. having graduated as an oenologist and wanting to create his own wine, rino sottimano acquired what was to become the family home, winery and vineyards in cottà, near barbaresco, in the heart of the langhe hills in piedmont, italy. although the estate began with only a few hectares, it gradually expanded by acquiring some of the most renowned crus, such as curra, fausoni and pajorè. today, the sottimano estate extends over 18 hectares of aged nebbiolo vines (40 years old on average), allowing the tasting of parcel-based vintages whose expressions testify to the great richness of the terroir. convinced that a great wine can only be obtained through passionate work and a great respect for nature, rino sottimano has been cultivating his vineyards since 1990, limiting the use of chemicals and fertilisers as much as possible, preserving the natural balance and richness of the soil. supported by his wife, ana, and with a passion for wine passed on to his children, andrea and elena, rino sottimano has made azienda agricola sottimano one of the finest examples of piedmont's wine-making tradition. in 2010, with the arrival of his son, who is also an oenologist, the estate has truly gained in quality, distinguishing itself with wines of great precision, whose depth of expression makes sottimano wines a reference in the barbaresco appellation. single vineyard nebbiolo from barolo with its characteristics dried herbs and acid cherries that can be drunk now but can be aged during decades
