château montus, the stronghold of the alain brumont vineyards, which cover a total of 180 hectares of vines, is one of the emblems of the madiran appellation. the estate is also known for its monumental underground cellar, built in 1995 and named the "cathedral of tannat", where some 2,000 barrels are stored. the estate's wines are regularly praised by critics for their exceptional elegance. alain brumont bought château montus in 1980, as the reputation of its south-facing sloping terroir was already established in the 18th century. in 2021, he celebrated his 40th vintage. alain brumont is known for his sophisticated vinification and his wines of rare elegance. he is the one who has helped to give a new lease of life to the emblematic madiran grape variety, the tannat. this 100% tannat wine is vinified in wooden vats, with punching down, then the malolactic fermentation is carried out in new barrels on the lees; the wine is then aged in new barrels for 14 to 16 months. this sublime cuvée is distinguished by its great density in the mouth, its volume, its depth, its fullness and its richness.
