"siran is a must in the galaxy of margaux. owned by the miailhe family, wine brokers, since 1859, siran previously belonged to the grandparents of toulouse-lautrec. the 5th generation, represented since 2007 by édouard miailhe, is currently in charge and manages the estate. note: the bottles were, until the passing of the torch to edouard miailhe, illustrated by the original work of an artist. small (25 ha) but with an exceptional terroir, the siran vineyard is planted on gravel and pebble soils; a particularity of the vineyard is that a large proportion of petit verdot (up to 15% in certain vintages) is included in the blend each year. this grape variety gives the wine more colour and length on the palate. siran is worked very classically, both in the vineyards and in the cellars. the wines of siran are powerful and develop intense aromas of red and black fruits. a 15-month ageing period in oak barrels gives the wine an imposing tannic structure that makes it suitable for long ageing. when the classification of the crus bourgeois was revised in 2003, siran was awarded the enviable title of cru bourgeois exceptionnel. a distinction that testifies to the quality of this wine, emblematic of the elegance of margaux wines. made from sandy and gravelly soil, the wines of siran are typical of the great wines of margaux. powerful and fine, they achieve a balance between tannins, fruit and acidity. the grape varieties are quite original for the appellation: merlot and cabernet sauvignon in almost equal proportions, supplemented by petit verdot and cabernet franc. the wine is powerful, intense and long in the mouth, thanks to the presence of petit verdot. in the cellar, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel vats, in a parcel-by-parcel manner, before macerating at a temperature of between 28 and 30 degrees. they were then put in vats for 18 to 24 days before undergoing partial malolactic fermentation. the juice was matured for 12 months in barrels with 35% new wood. this wine has powerful tannins, making it particularly suitable for ageing. fruity and perfectly balanced, it will go well with grilled meat and pan-fried mushrooms. enjoy it at around 16 degrees."
