"located in ampuis, the birthplace of the wines of côte-rôtie, the guigal estate was founded in 1946 by etienne guigal, who arrived in the region in 1923 at the age of 14 who worked in the development of the appellation of côte-rôtie as one of the greatest bordeaux or burgundian wines, like his descendants. today, the vineyard also covers all the prestigious appellations of the rhone valley: côte-rôtie, condrieu, saint-joseph, hermitage, gigondas, crozes-hermitage. they are all vinified and raised in the cellars of ampuis. considerable care is given to all the winemaking tasks: reasoned control, entirely manual work due to the inclination of the plots, vinification in stainless steel tanks thermo-regulated, aged in new oak barrels for 42 months to allow the wine to fully assert its aromas, etc. the house produces three «prestige» cuvées - la landonne, la mouline and la turque - a sublime triptych that enthusiasts tear themselves up. in terms of heritage, the famous estate stands out: the headquarters is located at the château d'ampuis, a renaissance jewel protected under the title of historical monuments. the plot of la landonne is not the exclusive property of the house guigal, unlike the other two crus monopolies. running on two hectares, the syrah has been vinified as a whole harvest and turns out, in fine, to be «the most bordeaux vintage» of the house. the breeding lasts less than 40 months, in new parts. of remarkable aromatic complexity - small black fruits, leather, liquorice, roasted coffee, oriental spices, etc.- the wine of la landonne offers an exceptional structure without losing a great flexibility of tannins. its richness and concentration are matched by an exceptional capacity to keep a wine from the rhône: up to 35 years, in the best years.
