pierre-vincent girardin, son of winemaker vincent girardin and proudly representing the 13th generation of a renowned family of burgundian winemakers, immersed himself in the world of vineyards from a young age. at the age of 15, he made the deliberate choice to follow the family tradition by starting his apprenticeship in his father's 2-hectare vineyard. this early decision proved to be fruitful, as in 2016, he founded his own domaine in meursault, in the côte de beaune. at just 19 years old, he introduced his very first vintage, the 2017, which met with resounding success. despite his youth, pierre-vincent girardin demonstrates remarkable maturity as a winemaker. driven by his passion for travel and his eagerness to discover the finest wines, he continuously enriches his knowledge, which is reflected in the evolution of his winemaking techniques. with boundless ambitions, this young winemaker aspires to fully express the richness of burgundian terroir. the domaine pierre girardin is thus poised to expand its footprint from 4.5 to 10 hectares over the next two years, following the acquisition of several prestigious appellations. furthermore, a complete conversion of production to organic agriculture is planned within 5 years, allowing the vineyard to express itself authentically, without artifice. the domaine pierre girardin produces base wines with some of the most prestigious appellations in burgundy. pierre-vincent girardin is the domaine's head winemaker overseeing the 4.5 hectares. he is one of the emerging figures in the region due to the quality of his wines. his love for the land, environmental concerns, and state-of-the-art facilities bode well for the promising evolution of this talented young winemaker. the vineyard consists of 40% chardonnay and 60% pinot noir. pierre-vincent girardin strives to convey the identity of the terroir and the various microclimates through his wines. the domaine is located in meursault and is equipped with an ultra-modern winery. bottling is done on-site according to the lunar calendar. the choice of barrels is meticulous, with sizes and degrees of toasting specifically tailored to each cuvée. for the aging of white wines, 456-liter barrels are used to limit the excessive influence of new oak. this meticulous approach results in perfectly balanced mineral white wines. red wines undergo a long and gentle maceration with little or no punching down, followed by bottling without filtration. they reveal themselves as flavorful, imbued with fruit and freshness, while being supple and minimally marked by oak. thanks to his father's extensive connections in burgundy, pierre-vincent has been able to expand the vineyards of his domaine by establishing long-term contracts with top producers who share his meticulous winemaking philosophy. together, they have assembled a portfolio of terroirs rarely found under one roof, including exceptional sites such as puligny folatières at the village level (the only other parcel in this section of the folatières is bottled by lalou bize-leroy), volnay clos des chênes, pommard epenots, corton-charlemagne, and even the prestigious montrachet. in burgundy, there is a multitude of activities to do, especially for wine, gastronomy, and historical heritage enthusiasts. here are some concrete examples: winery visits and tastings: explore renowned wineries such as domaine pierre girardin in meursault or other famous domains in the region like domaine de la romanée-conti in vosne-romanée. participate in tastings to discover the nuances of local wines, from chardonnay to pinot noir to gamay. bike rides through the vineyards: rent a bike and traverse the beautiful vineyard landscapes of burgundy. take the famous route des grands crus by bike to discover the vineyards of the côte de nuits and the côte de beaune. visits to castles and abbeys: explore burgundy's rich historical heritage by visiting medieval castles such as château de la rochepot or renowned abbeys like fontenay abbey, a unesco world heritage site. exploring picturesque towns and villages: stroll through charming burgundian towns and villages such as beaune, with its famous hospices de beaune, or dijon, known for its mustard and well-preserved historical center.
