founded in 1975 by chantal lescure and xavier machard de gramont, the domaine chantal lescure is a family-owned vineyard currently managing a 19-hectare estate, spanning from the northern hills of dijon to the south of meursault. after the passing of chantal lescure in 1996, her two sons, aymeric and thibault machard de gramont, took over the reins of the estate. however, in 2023, the estate changed ownership, passing into the hands of jean-philippe girard and éric rousseau. despite this change, françois chavériat, who had led the estate for 26 years, remained in his position with his team. each year, domaine chantal lescure produces 19 vintages from 35 distinct parcels. the philosophy of the estate, led by a passionate team, is clear: to create authentic and pure wines that precisely capture the essence of their terroir. bottling takes place directly at the estate, without resorting to filtration or fining. this vineyard is entirely cultivated using organic farming practices, with certification acquired since 2006. since 1996, françois chavériat has efficiently managed the magnificent estate located in nuits-saint-georges, now owned by jean-philippe girard and éric rousseau. the vineyards stretch along the côte de nuits and côte de beaune. thanks to an unwavering commitment to organic viticulture, implemented for over fifteen years, chavériat produces robust and expressive wines, a result of vigorous work in the vineyards. these wines have gained finesse over the years and deserve to be cellared for several years. domaine chantal lescure annually produces approximately 80,000 bottles from a planted area of 19 hectares, with 15.4 hectares dedicated to red grape varieties (97% pinot noir and 3% gamay noir à jus blanc) and 3.6 hectares to white grape varieties (95% chardonnay and 5% pinot gris). harvesting is done manually, and the estate does not purchase grapes. with an average age of the vines being 45 years, the estate emphasizes its commitment to quality, reflected in the production of expressive wines. burgundy, a region renowned for its wines, also offers a multitude of activities and sites to discover. here are some suggestions for what you can do in burgundy: · explore beaune: visit the town of beaune, known for its magnificent hospices de beaune, a medieval hospital turned museum. stroll through the cobblestone streets and discover the numerous restaurants and shops in the town. · abbey of cluny: explore the abbey of cluny, one of the largest medieval churches in europe, located in the south of burgundy. · castles and villages: explore picturesque castles and villages such as châteauneuf-en-auxois, vézelay, and semur-en-auxois.
