at the beginning of the 20th century, etienne camuzet, winegrower at vosne romanée and deputy of the côte-d'or, decided to enlarge his estate and made a very selective choice among the parcels he progressively acquired. he was the last owner of the clos de vougeot, before it was transferred to the tastevin brotherhood. his daughter maria noirot bequeathed it to jean méo, father of jean-nicolas, who has been in charge since 1989. the objective of the estate is to make wines that combine structure and finesse, concentration and charm. with the help of henri jayer, advisor for the vinification and maturation, a certain number of practices have been implemented to reach this objective: a strict limitation of yields with green harvesting which is systematically practiced even in the older vines. the méo-camuzet estate continues to operate the mythical premier cru cros parantoux in vosne-romanée with emmanuel rouget, the ultimate legacy of jayer. at harvest time, a new selection is made on a sorting belt, the grapes are then 100% destemmed. the wines are matured in new oak barrels to ensure optimal aging. bottling takes place after an average of 17 months in barrel. the wines are bottled by gravity, without filtration and, except in exceptional cases, without fining. thus, they do not undergo any trauma that could alter them. it is one of the greatest burgundian domains. the nuits-saint-georges aux murgers de méo-camuzet is a concentrated wine, as the wines of the appellation generally are. but raised in the jayer school, it is always a delicate wine of great finesse, never austere. the intensity of the fruit is striking, both on the nose and on the palate.
